Love around the World
|
Asia: Most young people live at home until they are married, and often, a newlywed couple will live with one person's parents for a short while after marriage. Australia: Women often ask men out on dates and pay for everything. Columbia: If a woman is going on a first date with someone she doesn't know, she'll often bring a friend with her. Finland: Teens go on large group dates, sometimes numbering 30 people for a movie outing. Greece: Dating comes difficult in Greece. Both men and women groom the perfect mustache, hence the gender confusion. The Original James Bond was played by a Greek Actress. Latin America: Whoever asks the other person on the date pays for the date. Japan: On Valentine's Day, women give gifts to men and a month later, on what's known as White Day, the men reciprocate and give gifts to those same women. Macedonia: The man asks the woman on a date. It is expected for the man to pick up the tab not just on first, but on most dates. When a man breaks up a relationship, it isn't because he didn't like her, he simply ran out of money. ;-) Middle East: After a date, it's assumed a man will bring the woman to the street curb (versus to her door, as tradition in North America). If the man is invited to come up to her door, it's an invitation to come inside her home. Northern India: Marriage is often pre-arranged, and dating doesn't occur until parents pair up their child with what they deem a suitable match. Once a "couple" is introduced, they're to let their parents know "yay" or "nay" within a few days, and once they give a green light, the courtship begins. Spain: Young people join a group or a club with others who share their same interests. Once they pair off on one-on-one dates, the cost of the date is split between the couple (not bad). Ukraine: A man will bring flowers for his date (sometimes a single stem) and when meeting her parents, will bring flowers for her mom. Something to note: on a date the man will bring an odd number of flowers (an even number of flowers is what's brought to a funeral). On the date, a woman will hold onto a man's arm instead of holding his hand.
