Central Macedonia hit by 70 earthquakes PDF Print E-mail

At 13:25pm this afternoon, the Macedonian central region was hit by numerous earthquakes. The epicenter has been registered in Valandovo.

The national seismological observatory registered an incredible 70 earthquakes during the afternoon, spanning into early morning. The magnitute recorded varied from 4.5-5.3 on the Richter scale.

Most damage was registered in villages near Valandovo where numerous houses have collapsed. Damages are also sighted in Sveti Nikole. No injuries have been reported, as the population managed to quickly flee their homes and apartment buildings.

The earthquake was felt in neighboring Bulgaria, where it shook the higher floors of buildings in Kustendil, Blagoevgrad and Plovdiv and was followed by a second, lighter tremour, measuring 4.2 on the Richter.
