Droutsas on ERT: US did not propose anything PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 12 March 2010

There is no US proposal on the name issue, Greek Alternate Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas said in the interview with the 3rd channel of ERT national television, countering bogus claims by state controlled papers 'To Vima' and 'Ta Nea'.

- There is no US proposal. What we have is the Greek our national red line which we have been pointing out to our collocutors, i.e. an erga omnes compound name with a geographical qualifier. This is what we discussed and what we presented, Droutsas said regarding the question whether there is a specific U.S. proposal on the name issue, which was presented to PM George Papandreou at the meetings in Washington with US President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Asked whether the discussion is only on the name issue or also for language and identity matters, Droutsas said: - What Greece is discussing is the UN mandate, which is clear: finding a mutually acceptable solution with our neighbouring country.
