Railroad traffic in Macedonia will be liberalized, as the state-run
company lost its monopoly and a new transport company Delta Rail Cargo
will start operating in Macedonia. New owners announce competition in
transport sector. At first, the company that is in 100-percent
Macedonian ownership will focus only on goods transport, whereas later
they also plan to expand their operation to transport of passengers.
Ivan Ilievski, owner of Delta Rail Cargo, says that they will start with
a modest offer and see how the business develops. He adds that now both
railway as well as truck transport got competition and that the company
will offer very low prices. Investments of the company amount to some
EUR 500,000. They plan to start operating already this month.
