Inter gets Tactics Wrong, fires blanks against Genoa PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 08 March 2010

Inter Milan maintained a four-point cushion in the Serie A title race but only after a dour 0-0 draw against Genoa which left coach Jose Mourinho frustrated in the stands.
And he should be, Inter looked more of a Seria B team with its players looking disinterested at times.

Despite fielding a three-pronged attacking force of Mario Balotelli, Goran Pandev and Diego Milito, Inter were unable to break down a stubborn Genoa side yesterday.

The players are all great individually, however, they all seem to be in the wrong place. Inter fielded Pandev on the left side and was given defensive responsibilities, to chase Genoa players. Pandev is an offensive player. The defensive responsibilities come down to Inter's 40 year old defense, which shows time and time again can't keep up with youthfull offense.

Balotelli was given a go in the first 11. This was a costly decision as Balotelli spent most of his time diving and laying on the pitch.

Sneijder and Stankovic were practically non existent on the field, failing to link up with either Pandev or Milito. It really makes one wonder how Inter managed to beat Chelsea few weeks ago, talk about luck!

Mourinho, who was serving the second of a three-match touchline ban, was so unimpressed that he charged out of his seat to get as close as possible to the pitch to bark his orders.

It wasn't until the last 15 minutes (when Genoa tired) that Inter looked dangerous with Maicon, substitute Samuel Eto'o and Wesley Sneijder wasting good opportunities.

Inter moved onto 59 points, four clear of AC Milan, who also finished goalless against Roma on Saturday. If Inter keeps up this level of confusion on the pitch, it'll be impossible for them to retain their Seria A crown.
