IOC Chief shows Class in Classless World PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 12 February 2010

Arafat, Ahtisaari, Obama.... are all recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize.

These names not just made the Nobel Peace prize irrelevant and laughable (the above listed are/were all involved in wars), it made the Swedes think twice whether the Norwegians should be the ones awarding this what used to be prestigious award.

Today at an IOC meeting, members of the olympic movement publicly asked IOC chairman Jacque Rogge that he should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Syrian member Mundal and Uruguayan Maglione supported this.

Jacque Rogge pondered the comments of his members for few seconds and responded: It is not nice to say no to awards, and it is never good to seek awards! If an award is bestowed on us as an Intl. movement (not myself), we will thank them, but we will not ask for one. - concluded Rogge to a muffled applause.

IOC's chief, though usually very quiet, had showed his class. And if I am Jacque Rogge, though it isn't nice to say no to awards, there are some awards you just don't want to be a part of.   //Pero Stamatovski
