Although the figures on Croatia's unemployment rate are not officially confirmed, the rate is too serious and it requires a prolonged check-up by relevant authorities.
Nova TV said the country's Statistical Office awaits instructions from the government to formally announce the numbers. The number of people out of work is rising. The global financial crisis took its toll in Croatia.
The number of jobless exceeds 300.000, according to unofficial reports. Compared with December 2009, the number of jobless rose by 17.000.
As many as 580 people turn jobless on daily basis. The fact that as many as 580 people got fired on daily basis is quite shocking.
The situation did not improve in February. "February 5th was my last working day after 32 years of service. Now I'm going to employment agency to look for a job," said Milan Dabic.
Branimir Lokin, prominent economist, predicts a battle for survival and employment. "In 1999 and 2000, the number of unemployed was 400,000, and therefore, there is nothing strange if the number reaches 350.000.
