World and Olympic champions France defeated Croatia 25-21 on Sunday to complete a unique title treble with the European handball crown. Nicola Karabatic led the way with six goals for France, which decided the match by racing into a 17-13 lead after a 12-9 deficit and 12-12 halftime score.

France won Olympic gold in 2008 and the world title in 2009. Sunday's success was their second continental title, the first coming in 2006.

Iceland won the match for third place 29-26 against Poland earlier in the day. Title holders Denmark had to settle for fifth place.
