Stuttering Serie A leaders Inter Milan late Saturday had to thank Wesley Sneijder brace and a late goal from Walter Samuel in a 4-3 home defeat of bottom side Siena.
Siena were ahead 3-2 until the 88th minute as Massimo Maccarone scored a brace for the Tuscany guests, who played a fast and gritty game at the rain-drenched Giuseppe Meazza.
It was hard to tell the 30-point initial difference between the reigning champions and the unrelenting minnows, who took an 18th-minute lead as Maccarone found the top-right corner with a powerful long-range drive.
A saved shot from Macedonian Goran Pandev was Inter's only effort until the guests' lead, while Brazil's Douglas Maicon later missed by a hairsbreadth firing to the left of Gianluca Curci.
The Siena goalkeeper on 24 minutes stood no chance on Diego Milito's swerving shot off Wesley Sneijder's long feed.
The classy, tight-angle goal was the Argentine's 11th and pushed him atop the scorers' table next to Udinese's Antonio Di Natale.
A free kick from Sneijder reversed the score on 35 minutes, but Siena's reply came just one minute later as Swede Albin Ekdal had the leisure to stop and fire home amidst Inter's static defence.
More trouble awaited the lacklustre champions after the break as Simone Vergassola dispossessed an ingenuous Maicon and fired high shortly before an unmarked Maccarone on 65 minutes scored his eighth goal past the helpless Julio Cesar.
There were few telling actions from Inter, but Sneijder confirmed his sharpshooting skills this time beating substitute Gianluca Pegolo with two minutes left and Argentine Samuel after a perfect pass from Pandev slammed home an incredible injury-time winner.
