UEFA: Macedonia v Canada football match Fixed by REF PDF Print E-mail

New scandal with the Macedonian football federation, though this time the culprit is not the teams involved, but Bulgarian UEFA referee Anton Genov.

There is information circling throughout Europe that online betting shops have lost millions of Euros on Canada vs Macedonia friendly match played in mid November.  Macedonia won 3-0.

All European and Asian betting shops had Macedonia as a favorite.

UEFA is not disputing the result, rather according to our sources they are looking at the 4 penalties, particularly the ones awarded to Canada and number of goals. From having watched the match, UEFA may be onto something as both penalties awarded to Canada were non-existent, borderline ridiculous. The two times Canada managed to reach the Macedonian penalty box, they came away with penalties!

It seems certain now Bulgarian referee Anton Genov was set to whistle for 4 penalties no matter what. Perhaps it was fair, according to the ref, that both teams receive two apiece. Canada missed their two, while Macedonia scored both.

Here is the bizarre part. When Macedonian goalkeeper stretched himself all the way to the post to save the PK, the Bulgarian ref had been heard saying to the goalie "Well You sure picked the Wrong time to make a Save!!!"
The Ref now we find out has been aiming for "Over 2.5 goals" scored.

Betting shops reported almost all money were picked up under the "Over 2.5 goals" betting option and "number of penalties". In theory, less than 0.1% of bettors would guess 4 penalties awarded in a match. In terms of the result, because it's a friendly match, most predicted 1:0 or 2:0 victory to Macedonia.

UEFA has already ordered Genov 'suspended' as he was scheduled to officiate Champions League match Dinamo Kiev - Barcelona !!

@ John
penalties and yellow cards and 100 other things do happen in games, even when completely random and legitimate. It would be difficult to disallow these betting options on the grounds that they encourage match fixing... a different solution would have to be in place...

Too easy to fix matches today
Blame the bookies?

Do you blame the librarian if you don't like a book, after all they offer you thousands.

Personally I would make identification of the gambler a law, therefore you know exactly who benefits from these "odd" betting results.

Ultimateley the blame lies with the football authorities who are often as not as corrupt as any crime syndicate. If there is a culture of criminality at the top, then it stands to reason that it will filter downwards.

Corrupt government, corrupt government workers, corrupt state. Corrupt federation, corrupt officials, corrupt game.

Why are they giving the option to bet on
"Number of Penalty kicks"
"Number of Yellow/Red Cards"
and 100 other options..
